Good things come in three - so does my team.

About Benjamin

I grew up in Devon, in the south west of England. At school I developed a passion for Drama which led me to eventually train as an actor. After university, I spent five years working in theatre, independent film, radio, opera and TV commercials; I wrote my own plays and took them to the Edinburgh festival. I worked on Shakespeare and a number of other jobs that helped to keep me afloat!

Back in 2003 I spent six months in Kolkata, India where I volunteered for Mother Theresa’s charity and taught English in a local school. It was a fantastic experience and I have continued teaching ever since – from Tibetan exiles in Dharamsala, to freelancers in London, to business people in Barcelona, to clients all over the world on Skype.

I took my CELTA qualification in 2013, shortly after which, I was recruited by EngVid to produce instructional videos for English language learners on YouTube. These videos have been extremely popular and have been licensed to broadcast on American cable TV.

It gives me great satisfaction to help my students write and work in English. Lessons with me are fun and interactive and will be designed to hone (improve) your English, so that you can confidently meet your goals.

I am from Johannesburg, the commercial capital of South Africa. The English language and what artists can do with it has always fascinated me, so I decided to study English and publishing at university, and I have been working in the publishing industry ever since. However, after working in educational publishing for a few years, I realised that it was time for me to teach and travel.

So, I got certified and I started my English teaching adventure in Istanbul. From there I went on to teach in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and at the Korean National Commission for UNESCO Icheon Global Peace Village in Icheon-si, Korea. Then, I went to Dublin to do get my CELTA before moving to Ho Chi Minh City, where I taught general English and IELTS preparation courses. While living in Vietnam, I also started doing my Masters in English Studies with the University of Nottingham, England. I really enjoyed studying the History of English, Shakespeare, Old English and Cognitive Poetics.

Now I’m back at home in South Africa, and I have been teaching English online for the last two years. My lessons are personalised and engaging, student-centred, communicative, and task based. Helping you achieve your English goals is my priority.
